Darton Archery Bows

I have two old compound bows, a 600WX Darton and an old bear hunter white tail. I recently took the Darton bow a show to see if it needs some work, and the guy at the archery shop told me he could not hunt with him. Steel wires are used they could not get replacements for splitting me at any time and is likely to hurt me. He said that even I would recommend pulling the bowstring back again, and proceeded to try to sell me a new bow in his shop. Is this information correct, or is this guy took me out for a walk? Can these steel cables be replaced by more modern materials. Today I learned that … The guy was right. They can not repair the steel cables, since nothing was done more. And they are a danger. I was shooting a bow Martin Cougar for many years and the steel cable broke and the metal tear that accompanies came flying around the camera and hit me in the chest beating me down.
